X to Launch Smart Cashtags for Market Data

X introduces Smart Cashtags

Catenaa, Friday, February 20, 2026-X will launch “Smart Cashtags” within weeks, allowing users to view live stock and cryptocurrency data directly in their timelines, the company’s head of product said Saturday.

Nikita Bier said the feature will let users tap ticker symbols to access real-time price charts, related posts and links to trade assets. He clarified that X will not execute trades or operate as a brokerage, but will build financial data tools and external links.

Smart Cashtags expand on X’s existing dollar-sign ticker system, which creates clickable symbols such as $NVDA. The new format will allow users to specify exact assets or smart contract addresses, including tokens issued on-chain that may not be listed on centralized exchanges.

Christopher Park, director of X’s developer platform, said the company will tighten enforcement against automation, scraping and spam. Bier said apps that incentivize harassment or coordinated activity will face new API restrictions.

The product is part of a broader financial services push. In January 2025, then-CEO Linda Yaccarino announced a partnership with Visa to introduce X Money, a digital wallet for peer-to-peer payments. The company has said it plans to expand into in-app trading and investing.

X holds money transmitter licenses in more than 40 U.S. states but has not secured approval in New York. Owner Elon Musk said earlier this month that X Money completed internal testing and could enter limited beta within two months.

Musk acquired Twitter, now X, in 2022 for about $44 billion.
