Burkhard Mühl, head of Europol’s European Financial and Economic Crime Centre, highlighted ongoing efforts to support member states in complex, cross-border investigations.
Recent takedowns coordinated by Europol included a Latvian cybercrime network laundering over $330,000 in crypto, a clandestine hawala system moving $23 million, and a $540 million crypto investment fraud affecting more than 5,000 victims.
Physical assaults on crypto holders, known as wrench attacks, have also risen, with France reporting 16 incidents this year alone.
