BNB Chain Backs ERC-8004 for Onchain AI Identity

BNB Chain backs ERC-8004 AI identity

Catenaa, Monday, February 09, 2026- BNB Chain said it will support ERC-8004, a new onchain identity standard designed to give autonomous artificial intelligence agents verifiable and portable identities across platforms, as developers push toward interoperable agent-based systems.

The network said ERC-8004 allows AI agents to maintain a persistent identity as they move between applications and services, rather than rebuilding reputation within each closed environment. The standard is intended to help users, services and other agents verify legitimacy, track behavior history and establish accountability over time.

Autonomous agents are software programs that can make decisions and execute actions on behalf of users. As these systems expand beyond single applications, developers face growing challenges around trust, identification and coordination. BNB Chain said ERC-8004 addresses those issues by anchoring identity directly onchain.

Alongside the identity standard, the BNB Chain community is introducing BNB Application Proposals, or BAPs, a framework that governs how applications interact at the application layer. Unlike existing proposals that focus on core protocol rules, BAPs define standards for interfaces, wallets, identity handling, tokens, non-fungible assets and application interoperability.

The first proposal under the framework, BAP-578, introduces the Non-Fungible Agent standard. Under this model, AI agents can exist as onchain assets capable of holding tokens, executing logic, interacting with protocols and being transferred or contracted for use. The proposal is positioned as an early building block for agent-driven services operating across the BNB Chain ecosystem.

BNB Chain said the combined standards are meant to support developers building AI-driven applications that can operate across decentralized environments with consistent identity and predictable behavior.
