OpenAI Eyes Human‑Verified Social Network

OpenAI explores human‑verified platform

Catenaa, Tuesday, February 03, 2026– OpenAI is reportedly exploring the use of eyeball-scanning technology from World to verify human users for a potential social media platform, according to sources cited by Forbes.

The network would aim to prevent bots from dominating interactions, leveraging biometric verification to ensure only humans participate.

World, formerly known as Worldcoin and developed by Tools for Humanity co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, issues World IDs to users who undergo in-person Orb scans.

The system has signed up over 17 million users and previously distributed cryptocurrency incentives for verification. OpenAI may also integrate Apple’s Face ID as an additional human verification method.

The initiative is said to target the challenges faced by existing networks like X, Instagram, and TikTok, which struggle with bot activity.

OpenAI is reportedly considering combining its AI expertise from ChatGPT and Sora to create a social platform focused on verified human interaction.

World has partnered with web3 gaming studio Mythical Games to separate bots from humans in prior projects, but the Orb’s use has drawn scrutiny from privacy advocacy groups concerned about biometric data.

OpenAI and World did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The potential collaboration represents a convergence of OpenAI’s AI development and biometric verification technologies, suggesting a new approach to social networking designed to prioritize authentic human engagement while reducing bot-driven manipulation and spam.
